In the race for quality, There is no finish line!

President's Message December 2015

16 Dec 2015 9:57 AM | Justin Shiver (Administrator)

The year 2015 was a busy year for The Chronometer Club. All communications were moved to digital format. Membership is now free. The club hosted an educational seminar presented by Tom Schomaker. Blogs were introduced on the website, the club’s bylaws were updated, a policy document created, and neofficers were elected.

While much was accomplished, there is still much to do. The Chronometer Club was created to provide a technical forum for professional horologists engaged in the service and repair of Certified Chronometer watches, for the express purpose of enhancing the level of craftsmanship and elevating quality standards. Most members joined the group because it offered a platform for technical only discussions.

Changes in the industry have created the need for a platform that would allow broader horology related discussions. In order to fulfill this need, while respecting the wishes of the members who still prefer technical only discussions, the officers have created the Members Forum. The Members Forum will facilitate technical and non-technical discussions, while the Yahoo Group will remain technical only. You are now invited to join the discussions on the Members Forum. Please do so. My hope is that the Members Forum will become a valuable tool for the betterment of all members of the club.

The 2015 Annual Meeting and Educational Seminar was a huge success. Tom Schomaker developed and presented an amazing program. He is truly one of the best instructors in the business. The officers have begun planning for the 2016 Annual Meeting and Educational Seminar. It will be held just ahead of the AWCI Convention on September 28, 2016 at the Eaglewood Resort and Spa in Itasca, IL. Itasca is a suburb northwest of Chicago.

The date and location are set, but we are still developing the program. Please use the Members Forum to let the officers know what type of educational programs you would like to attend. You can visit to learn more about this beautiful facility.

As we close out 2015 you will receive a renewal notice. Membership remains free, and it should only take a few minutes to complete. Please take the time to provide the requested information. It will be used to make sure all membership data is current.

This group has a great legacy of helping each other as we strive to enhance the level of craftsmanship and elevate quality standards of watchmaking. Please join me in honoring and building upon this legacy as we move forward. I wish you all a very Happy Holiday season, and a prosperous New Year!
