President's Message Winter 2014

25 Nov 2014 8:57 AM | Justin Shiver (Administrator)

The Officers of the Chronometer Club have been busy transitioning into our newly elected positions. During this transitional period we have been evaluating standard operating procedures of the club and looking for ways to make them more efficient. In this President’s Message I will go over two changes that have been made and provide an update regarding the technical seminar for 2015.

We have begun planning the technical seminar for 2015. The date for the seminar is September 30, 2015. It will be held in conjunction with the AWCI Convention in Kansas City, Mo. Please go ahead and reserve the date on your calendar.  Soon you will be receiving an email survey asking you to provide input for the topic of the seminar.  Please take the time to complete the survey. The results of the survey will determine the topic that will be covered. Updates will be provided on our website www.thechronometerclub.org as we move forward with the planning.

During the transition process it became apparent that the majority of the operational costs associated with the club were dedicated to producing the newsletter in printed form. We realized that operational costs could be significantly reduced by moving to a digital format using the capabilities of the club website www.thechronometerclub.org.  After consulting with the writers and advertisers and learning they would support this change, the Executive Committee has decided to suspend the production of the newsletter in printed form. Moving forward we will be utilizing capabilities such as forums, blogs, and mass emails provided by the website to facilitate club communications.

I am most excited to announce the following change to membership. Qualifications to become a member will remain unchanged. Membership shall be open to any aspiring, practicing, or retired professional watchmaker interested in the maintenance, repair, conservation, or preservation of Certified Chronometer Watches, but because of the significant reduction in operating expenses provided by moving to a digital format starting in 2015 membership in The Chronometer Club will be Free. I hope that you will share in my excitement as we welcome back past members and have the opportunity to get to know new colleagues as they join.

Your input will be greatly appreciated as we move forward. Please visit the blog “Club News” at www.thechronometerclub.org  for updates as we introduce these changes and to share your ideas of how to improve the club.

Wishing you a Happy Holiday Season!

I just want to add that all those old members who dropped out for some reason or another are welcome back. The Officers have decided to make their old membership active. The focus is online participation. I will be sending an email to everyone who has an address inviting them to join in on the online discussions.
